Shake It Up (American TV series)
Shake It Up is an American teen sitcom that aired on Disney Channel from November 7, 2010, to November 10, 2013. Created by Chris Thompson, the show stars Bella Thorne as CeCe Jones and Zendaya as Rocky Blue, two best friends who land jobs as background dancers on a local TV dance show called Shake It Up, Chicago. The show follows their on-set adventures and the challenges of school and growing popularity, as well as their relationships with friends and family.
Other main characters include Rocky's brother Ty, played by Roshon Fegan; CeCe's little brother Flynn, played by Davis Cleveland; Deuce Martinez, played by Adam Irigoyen; and Gunther and his sister Tinka, played by Kenton Duty and Caroline Sunshine. The series was Disney Channel’s first show centered on two female friends with a dance-driven premise, and its theme song, "Shake It Up," is performed by Selena Gomez.
The series ran for three seasons with a total of 75 episodes. A 90-minute special, Made in Japan, served as the season two finale in 2012. In 2013, Shake It Up was renewed for a third season, but Kenton Duty did not appear as a regular in that season. The show ended after three seasons with its final episode in November 2013.
Shake It Up was produced by It’s a Laugh Productions and used a multi-camera setup, with most episodes running about 23 minutes (66 minutes for Made in Japan). It also aired in various countries and inspired an Indian adaptation with two boys as the lead characters. The show received mixed reviews from critics.
