Brazilian galliwasp
The Brazilian galliwasp (Diploglossus lessonae) is a small carnivorous lizard found only in northeastern Brazil. It grows to about 30 cm long and can live around 10 years. Babies have black and white zebra-like stripes; adults are brown with a red or yellow head and underside and have small legs. It lives on land in semiarid areas, scrub, and low forests. It is active during the day and spends part of its time underground. It eats insects. It lays eggs (oviparous), with one clutch per year during the dry season, usually 1–7 eggs. Its conservation status is Least Concern.
