Chilekwa Mumba
Chilekwa Mumba (born 1984 or 1985) is a Zambian community organizer, environmental activist, and orphanage manager from Chingola in the Copperbelt Province. He is best known for leading a successful lawsuit against Vedanta Resources, the UK-based owner of Konkola Copper Mines, over pollution and environmental damage in Zambia. The case was the first time a British court held a parent company responsible for environmental harm caused by its overseas subsidiaries.
In 2023, Mumba received the Goldman Environmental Prize. He grew up with a father who was a miner and later a Pentecostal minister. By April 2023, he and his wife were running an orphanage in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia.
