Sergey Ognev
Sergey Ivanovich Ognev (Russian: Сергей Иванович Огнёв) was a Russian scientist, zoologist and naturalist who studied mammals. He was born on 17 November 1886 in Moscow and died on 20 December 1951 in Moscow. He graduated from Moscow University in 1910, the same year he published his first monograph. In 1928 he became a professor at the Moscow State Pedagogical University. He wrote many textbooks on zoology and ecology. His major work, Mammals of Russia and adjacent territories, was never completed. Three mammals are named after him: Talpa ognevi, Cnephaeus ognevi, and Plecotus ognevi. The common name Ognev's Mouse-tailed Dormouse also honors him.
