Second Tarun Gogoi ministry
Second Tarun Gogoi ministry
Tarun Gogoi formed his second term as Chief Minister of Assam on 21 May 2006, after being in office since 2001. He was sworn in on 14 May 2006 at Raj Bhavan, Guwahati, and his ministry lasted until 30 May 2011. It was a Congress-led coalition supported by independents and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) faction along with the NCP. The cabinet included 17 ministers and one minister of state, all from Congress or independents.
During this period, law and order improved and the state’s finances strengthened. Gogoi focused on implementing central government schemes, promoting industrialization, and negotiating to resolve insurgency in Assam.
The main opposition parties were Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The term followed the 2006 assembly elections and lasted five years, succeeding Tarun Gogoi I and preceding Tarun Gogoi II.
