Señor de Burgos Church, Amazonas
Señor de Burgos Church is a 17th‑century adobe church in Chachapoyas, Peru, on Plaza de la Independencia in the La Laguna neighborhood. It is dedicated to a revered local figure, Señor de Burgos, believed to perform miracles. The church has withstood several earthquakes, especially in 1929, 1970, and 2005. In the 2005 quake near the northern Peru epicenter, the church was badly damaged and had to close for worship for the first time. The sacred image of Señor de Burgos and other items were moved to the home of Doña Hilda Rodríguez Eguren, while pews and equipment were stored in a nearby building. There is hope to preserve the old tower and frontage, but much of the rest may need costly demolition and rebuilding.
