Seán Clohessy
Seán Clohessy (27 October 1931 – 6 October 2019) was an Irish hurler from Tullaroan, County Kilkenny. He played club hurling with Tullaroan and Young Irelands (Dublin) and spent about a decade on Kilkenny’s senior inter-county team, usually in the midfield or forward lines. A bank official by trade, Clohessy stood 5 feet 11 inches tall.
Clohessy first appeared for Kilkenny at minor level and made his senior championship debut in 1953. He won two All-Ireland medals (1957 and 1963) and five Leinster medals (1953, 1957, 1958, 1959 as captain, and 1963). He also claimed a National Hurling League title in 1961–62 and a Railway Cup with Leinster in 1956. At the club level, he won Kilkenny’s senior championship with Tullaroan in 1958. Clohessy retired after Kilkenny’s 1963 All-Ireland win over Waterford.
His father, Pat Clohosey, also played for Kilkenny. Seán Clohessy passed away in Midleton, Cork, at the age of 87.
