Schoenoplectiella mucronata is a flowering plant in the sedge family. It is commonly called bog bulrush, rough-seed bulrush, or ricefield bulrush. It is native to Eurasia, Africa, and Australia and grows in moist or wet habitats, including shallow water.

Description
- It is a perennial herb that grows from a short, hard rhizome.
- Stems are erect, three-angled, and form dense clumps up to about 1 meter tall.
- Leaves are sheaths at the base of the stem and usually do not have blades.
- The inflorescence is a headlike cluster of cone-shaped spikelets with a stiff angled bract that may look like a continuation of the stem.

Distribution and habitat
- Found in moist and wet terrestrial environments and in shallow water.
- It is known as a weed in rice fields in California.

Taxonomy
- Current accepted name: Schoenoplectiella mucronata (L.) J.Jung & H.K.Choi.
- First described as Scirpus mucronatus by Carl Linnaeus in 1753.
- Transferred to Schoenoplectus mucronatus by Eduard Palla in 1889.
- Reclassified to Schoenoplectiella mucronata in 2010 by Jongduk Jung and Hong-Kuen Choi.
- Many synonyms exist in taxonomic databases.
