Portage Township, Wood County, Ohio
Portage Township is in the center of Wood County, Ohio. It had 1,558 residents in 2020 and covers about 36.6 square miles of land. Inside the township are parts of two villages: Jerry City in the south and Portage in the northwest. The township was established in 1832.
Portage Township is governed by a three-member board of trustees and an elected fiscal officer. Trustees serve four-year terms: two are elected in the year after a presidential election, and one is elected in the year before. The fiscal officer serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 after the November election held in the year before the presidential election. If a vacancy occurs, the remaining trustees fill it. The Portage Township House is located at the intersection of Huffman and Mermill roads.
