Ryohei Oiwa
Ryohei Oiwa is a Japanese professional wrestler signed to New Japan Pro-WWrestling (NJPW). He is part of the TMDK stable and has also appeared in Pro Wrestling NOAH.
Early life and background
Oiwa was born on November 7, 1998, in Kōnan, Aichi, Japan. He began amateur wrestling at Zen Total Wrestling Club in junior high and won a bronze medal in the 86 kg freestyle division at the 2018 JOC Junior Olympic Cup. He passed NJPW’s apprentice test in December 2020 and joined the NJPW Dojo in April 2021 after earning a law degree from Hosei University. He made his pro debut on August 24, 2021, facing Kosei Fujita at Korakuen Hall in a 10-minute draw, and got his first win on April 18, 2022, against Fujita. He also defeated Yuto Nakashima on August 20, 2022.
Career highlights
In August 2023, during G1 Climax 33, Oiwa and Kaito Kiyomiya teamed to defeat Toru Yano and Oskar Leube, marking their first win together in the event. After the match, Kiyomiya suggested they team up in NOAH, starting a joint training program for Oiwa as a Young Lion. On September 3, 2023, in his first match since graduating from the Young Lions, Oiwa and Kiyomiya defeated Zack Sabre Jr. and Yoshinari Ogawa in Osaka. Five days later, he challenged Sabre Jr. for the NJPW World Television Championship but did not win.
Later in 2023, Oiwa and Kiyomiya competed in the World Tag League (A block). They earned a win over Gabe Kidd and Alex Coughlin when Kiyomiya won by ring-out, and they lost the main event on November 28 to Shota Umino and Ren Narita, finishing with two wins and missing the finals.
In February 2024, Oiwa and Kiyomiya won the Victory Challenge Tag League, advancing to the finals and defeating Saxon Huxley and Timothy Thatcher to claim the tournament. They then challenged for the GHC Tag Team Championship but lost to Jack Morris and Anthony Greene.
In May 2024, Kiyomiya formed a new unit, All Rebellion, with Kenoh and others. Oiwa initially seemed set to join but, on May 21, attacked Kiyomiya and Kenoh, choosing not to join.
In September 2024, at Destruction in Kobe, Oiwa teamed with Sabre Jr. and Fujita to join TMDK, defeating Sanada, Taichi, and Taka Michinoku of Just 5 Guys.
In 2025, Oiwa took part in his first New Japan Cup, defeating Chase Owens in the first round but losing to Sabre Jr. in the second. At Sakura Genesis on April 4, 2025, he challenged Konosuke Takeshita for the NEVER Openweight Championship but did not win.
