Sans-Pareil-class ship of the line

Sans-Pareil was a French ship-of-the-line concept shown to King Louis XV between 1757 and 1760. It was not built under that name; the design was used to build the Royal Louis, which was launched in 1759 from Brest.

The project aimed to create a family of improved warships, with planned vessels including Océan, Médiateur, Majestueux, and Indomptable. However, because of the high construction costs, only Royal Louis was completed and the others were replaced with smaller ships.

Today, Sans-Pareil exists only as a 1/30 scale model kept at the Musée de la Marine in Paris. The model is thought to be very close to what Royal Louis looked like at launch. Its figurehead was a lion, and the aft decorations were simplified to fit the overall lines of the ship.
