Jack Evans (footballer, born 1908)
Jack “Copper” Evans (19 January 1908 – 10 July 1960) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1930s. Born in Moolap, Victoria, he originally played for Minyip and was 182 cm tall and weighed 81 kg.
Evans played from 1929 to 1938, appearing in 149 games and scoring 146 goals. Though mainly a ruckman, he could also play at centre half-forward and was Geelong’s leading goal-kicker in 1935 with 32 goals. He helped Geelong win premierships in 1931 and 1937, kicking six goals in the 1937 Grand Final against Collingwood. He also represented Victoria nine times in interstate football.
Outside football, Evans was a policeman from 1932 to 1960. He died in Geelong, Victoria, on 10 July 1960, aged 52. In 2011, he was inducted into the Victoria Police Sporting Hall Of Fame.
