Sam Freed (born August 29, 1948) is an American actor who has appeared on Broadway, in television, and in films. He was born in York, Pennsylvania, the youngest of six children. He studied theatre at Penn State, earning a BA in 1970, and began acting at the York Little Theatre before pursuing professional work.

After college he moved to New York City in 1971, worked in dinner and summer theatres, helped build sets, and joined the improv group The Proposition. He later appeared in many TV shows and made his TV-movie debut in Lady of the House (1978). His roles include Bob Barsky on Kate & Allie (the last three seasons), Bill Bueller in the Ferris Bueller TV series, and James C. Whiting III, editor of The Baltimore Sun, on The Wire’s final season. He married Barrie Young in 1983; she died in 2022.
