It takes place at Tipperary Racecourse in County Tipperary, over 7 furlongs and 100 yards (about 1,500 metres) on turf, on a left-handed track, every August. The race began in 2003 as a Listed event and was promoted to Group 3 status in 2012.

Penalties apply for winners of higher-class races: 7 pounds for Group 1 winners, 5 pounds for Group 2 winners (and 2 Group 3 wins), and 3 pounds for Group 3 winners since January 1. The purse was €55,000 in 2022, with €32,450 going to the winner. The race is named after Fairy Bridge, the dam of the notable sire Sadler's Wells.
