Sally Ellis
Sally Ellis (born Sally McDiarmid on 17 May 1958) is a retired English long-distance runner who competed mainly in marathons and 5,000 metres. She represented Great Britain at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona in the marathon and England at the Commonwealth Games in 1990 (Auckland) and 1994 (Victoria, Canada). She was a member of Birchfield Harriers.
Career highlights:
- 1983 WAAA Championships: finished 3rd in the 5,000 metres.
- 1985: after marrying David Ellis, she competed as Sally Ellis and finished 2nd and 3rd in events at the WAAA Championships behind Sue Crehan and Monica Joyce.
- 1990 AAA Championships: British 5,000 metres champion.
- 1991 World Championships in Athletics: competed.
- 1992 Olympics: represented Great Britain in the marathon.
- 1994 Commonwealth Games: represented England in Victoria, Canada.
- Post-competitive career: founded a running and fitness group in Sutton Coldfield.
