La Joya Formation

La Joya Formation is a geologic formation in north-central Mexico, located in the Sierra Madre Oriental in Tamaulipas. It dates to the Jurassic period, about 181 to 163 million years ago, and consists mainly of marine sediments. The formation preserves Jurassic fossils. It lies above the La Boca Formation and Huizachal Formation and beneath the Indidura Formation.
