Barium Springs is a small, unincorporated community in Iredell County, North Carolina. It sits on the northern edge of Troutman along U.S. Route 21 and has its own post office with ZIP code 28010. Native Americans called the area Poison Springs, a name later used for the first post office. In the 1880s, a mineral spa opened here, and the town’s name changed to Barium Springs to highlight the mineral-rich waters. The community is also the site of the Barium Springs Home for Children, a facility for disadvantaged and troubled kids.
