Söğütlüçeşme railway station
Söğütlüçeşme railway station is in the Kadıköy district of Istanbul, Turkey. It sits on a viaduct above Söğütlüçeşme Park, about 1.5 kilometers east of Haydarpaşa station. The station has two island platforms and four tracks, is elevated, and has parking on the north and west sides. It is accessible for passengers with disabilities. The station code is 1624.
The station is owned by the Turkish State Railways and operated by TCDD Taşımacılık. It serves Marmaray commuter trains and high‑speed rail services, including the Ankara Express, and it used to handle regional and intercity trains as well.
History and key dates: Söğütlüçeşme opened in 1872 as part of a Kadıköy–Izmit railway. The current station building was constructed between 1975 and 1979 and opened in 1985. It was electrified in 1969 with 25 kV AC overhead lines. The Istanbul Metrobus was extended to Söğütlüçeşme in 2009, making it the first Haydarpaşa suburban station connected to the wider city network. The station was closed in 2013 for rehabilitation and expansion for the Marmaray project and reopened on March 12, 2019, as part of Marmaray, running through to Gebze.
Location and surroundings: Söğütlüçeşme station is located above Söğütlüçeşme Park. To the north is the Kadıköy Municipality Headquarters; the Kadıköy city center is about 650 meters to the west, and the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium (home of Fenerbahçe) lies to the southeast. The neighborhood around the station includes Acıbadem, Hasanpaşa, Fikirtepe, Zühtüpaşa, Osmanağa, Caferağa, and Rasimpaşa.
Connections: The station offers Metrobus access on the north side and connects to many city buses serving Istanbul.
