1976 Calder Cup playoffs
The 1976 Calder Cup playoffs in the American Hockey League ran from April 3 to April 28, 1976. Eight teams qualified—the top three from each division. The division winners earned byes to the Division Finals, while the other two teams in each division played best-of-five series to reach the Division Finals. The Division Finals and the Calder Cup Final were best-of-seven series. Home ice in each round went to the team with more regular-season points, but the exact series format could vary because of arena scheduling and travel.
The Nova Scotia Voyageurs had the best regular-season record and went on to win the Calder Cup, defeating the Hershey Bears four games to one in the Final. This was the Voyageurs’ second Calder Cup title.
Coincidentally, their parent club, the Montreal Canadiens, won the Stanley Cup that season by sweeping the Philadelphia Flyers in four games, making them the first pair of teams to win both the AHL Calder Cup and NHL Stanley Cup in the same season. The same double feat would be accomplished again the following year.
