List of earthquakes in Kansas

Earthquakes in Kansas are not common and are usually small. The state sits in the middle of North America, far from the biggest active faults, so strong earthquakes are rare.

Most quakes in Kansas are mild and felt only near the epicenter or not at all. Sometimes a larger quake is felt across a wider area, caused by natural faults in the central United States or, in some cases, by human activities such as injecting wastewater from oil and gas operations.

Scientists monitor earthquakes with seismographs and report them to the public. Each event on the list includes when it happened, where it was felt, and its size (magnitude).

In general, Kansas has had many small earthquakes since records began, with only a few strong enough to be widely felt. The list brings together all recorded events, from the smallest to the largest.
