Woottens Luxury Travel
Woottens Luxury Travel was a coach and bus company based in Buckinghamshire, England. It was founded in 1999 by Nick and Michael Wootten, starting with two coaches and a small depot in Princes Risborough. In its first year, the company won school transport contracts for Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire and moved in August 1999 to a purpose-built depot at Lye Green near Chesham.
In 2007, Woottens bought Westways of High Wycombe, boosting its day trips and brochure holidays. The company was shortlisted for the Route One Coach Operator of the Year award that year.
In July 2008, Woottens launched the Tiger Line, a commercial bus service between Aylesbury and Hemel Hempstead. The route, known as T1, ran hourly and later added a Saturday service to Bovingdon. It connected Chesham and Great Missenden to Stoke Mandeville Hospital and the Roald Dahl Museum.
From 2009, the Tiger Line also operated council routes 106 and 321 (High Wycombe to Princes Risborough) and added a T3 service on a similar route. These used double-deck buses. In August 2009, a new route T2 between Watford and Hemel Hempstead was introduced, with some trips to Chesham and competition from Arriva.
The T2 service was made half-hourly from January 2010, and the T1 service was reduced in May 2010. A peak journey to Chesham was added to T2 a couple of weeks later. In September 2009, the company ran a promotion with Mix 96 radio to name the Tiger Line mascot, Roary the Tiger.
A new route, T5, linking Amersham and Chesham to St Albans/Hatfield, started in August 2010 but was withdrawn in May 2011. The company’s remaining services, including school routes, ended in December 2011.
In June 2011, Bowen Travel Group bought a 75% stake in Woottens. Bowen Travel Group went into administration in October 2012 due to cashflow problems, and Woottens ceased operations.
