Rubén Gotay

Rubén Antonio Gotay is a Puerto Rican former Major League Baseball infielder who played as a second baseman and third baseman. He batted switch and threw right-handed. Gotay’s MLB career stretched from 2004 to 2008, with the Kansas City Royals, New York Mets, and Atlanta Braves. He debuted with the Royals in August 2004 and collected his first major league hit off José Contreras. He later hit his first Mets homer off Matt Morris in 2007 and also homered for the Braves in 2008. Over his MLB career, Gotay posted a .255 batting average with 12 home runs and 77 RBIs.

After leaving MLB, Gotay played in the minor leagues and in Mexico, then moved into coaching. He coached for the Phillies’ High-A Clearwater Threshers in 2018 and for the Pirates’ Triple-A Indianapolis Indians in 2023. He was named the hitting coach for the Augusta GreenJackets, the Braves’ Single-A affiliate, for the 2025 season. His uncle is former major leaguer Julio Gotay. Gotay began playing Little League in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, where his father Rubén Gotay was a youth coach.
