Roy Woodcock
Roy Gordon Woodcock (26 November 1934 – 20 August 2015) was an English cricketer and educator. He was born in Burnley, Lancashire, and later moved to Worcestershire. He studied at Keble College, Oxford, and played first-class cricket for Oxford University from 1956 to 1958, appearing in 29 matches. He was an all‑rounder, scoring 779 runs with an average of 18.11 and a top score of 57, and taking 53 wickets with slow left‑arm orthodox bowling, best figures 4/54.
After Oxford, he began teaching at Rossall School. He married Margaret in 1959. In 1967 he moved to Charterhouse School as head of geography, and he became a housemaster in 1976. He wrote several geography textbooks. He retired from teaching in 1995 and moved to Malvern, Worcestershire. In retirement he enjoyed walking and wrote seventeen books about walks in the Malvern Hills. Woodcock died in Malvern in August 2015, aged 80.
