Anderson Cooper 360°
Anderson Cooper 360° (AC360°) is an American television news program on CNN and CNN International hosted by Anderson Cooper. It features segments like Reality Check (fact-testing claims) and AC360° Hotline (viewer Q&A), along with field reports from Cooper. The show airs weeknights from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. ET and has been broadcast live from CNN’s Studio 21L at 30 Hudson Yards in New York City since May 20, 2019, with occasional broadcasts from Washington, D.C. or the site of breaking news. Clips and full episodes are posted on CNN’s YouTube channel, and a weekly podcast was offered in the past.
AC360° debuted on September 8, 2003, as a one-hour, easygoing news/talk program at 7:00 p.m. ET. During Hurricane Katrina, Cooper’s on-site reporting helped boost ratings, leading CNN to expand the show to two hours on November 7, 2005. In August 2011, it was moved to 8:00 p.m. ET, with a replay at 10:00 p.m. ET. In June 2013, CNN stopped airing regular repeats and introduced a late-night spin-off, AC360° Later, which was canceled in February 2014 due to low and erratic viewership and CNN’s shift toward on-demand content.
Cooper is known for reporting from major events, including Hurricane Katrina, the BP oil spill, the 2010 Haiti earthquake, and Typhoon Haiyan. The program began broadcasting in high definition on September 26, 2007. Frequent contributors include John King, Dana Bash, David Gergen, Joe Johns, and others, with fill-ins such as Wolf Blitzer, Sanjay Gupta, Jake Tapper, and John Berman.
CNN’s site offers clips and interviews, and a podcast version of each broadcast was available in 2012 (later phased out).
AC360° has received awards and nominations, including GLAAD nominations in 2006 and 2010, and multiple Emmy Awards, notably two for Haiti coverage in 2011.
