Roman Zaretsky
Roman Zaretsky (born December 4, 1983) is a retired Israeli ice dancer who skated with his sister, Alexandra Zaretsky. They won bronze at Skate America in 2009, were champions at the 2009 Golden Spin of Zagreb, earned three medals at the Nebelhorn Trophy, and won the Israeli national championship three times. The pair finished sixth at the World Championships and competed in two Winter Olympics, finishing 10th in 2010.
Roman was born in Minsk, Belarus, and his Jewish family moved to Metula, Israel, in 1990. He started skating at age four and switched to ice dancing with his sister when he was 11. They trained mainly in the United States and were coached by several coaches, including their mother early on, Evgeni Platov, and later Galit Chait and Nikolai Morozov.
They began on the ISU Junior Grand Prix circuit in 2001 and won medals there, becoming the first Israelis to medal on the series. They moved to senior competition, earning Grand Prix results and Nebelhorn medals. At the 2010 Vancouver Olympics they finished 10th after a free dance set to music from Schindler’s List, a tribute to relatives who died in the Minsk Holocaust. They retired from competition in June 2010. Afterward, they performed in ice shows and coached together in Houston.
