Roland Schönenberger
Roland Schönenberger (born 10 October 1955) is a Swiss former football forward. He started at local club FC Wangen bei Olten and joined FC Basel in 1974. He made his Basel debut on 17 August 1974 and scored his first goal on 19 October 1974. In his first season Basel finished fourth; he scored six goals in 19 league games. In 1975–76 he was Basel’s top scorer with 10 league goals in 24 games, as the team finished third.
In 1976–77 Basel won the Swiss championship after a playoff on 26 June 1977; Schönenberger played 11 league games and scored 3 goals. In 1977–78 he scored 16 goals in 30 league games, helping Basel to a high finish. In 1978–79 he played 26 league games and scored six. He left Basel in 1979 after 195 games and 80 goals in all competitions.
He then joined Young Boys, where he played until retiring in 1986. His last season with Young Boys saw them win the Swiss championship.
Schönenberger earned four caps for Switzerland between 1977 and 1980. He made his international debut on 21 September 1977 against Spain in Bern, and played again on 30 October 1977 against Norway, helping Switzerland win 1–0. He also played in World Cup qualifiers in 1982.
