Robert Theodore Barrett (born May 13, 1949) is an American painter, illustrator, and professor at Brigham Young University. He has created illustrated works such as The Story of the Walnut Tree, Silent Night, Holy Night: The Story of the Christmas Truce, and The Nauvoo Temple Stone. He also illustrated Obama: Only in America (2010) by Carole Boston Weatherford. Barrett earned a BFA from the University of Utah and MA and MFA degrees from the University of Iowa. He studied painting in Europe with a German Academic Exchange Grant at the Berlin University of the Arts and was an artist-in-residence at the Kimball Art Center through an NEA–Utah Arts Council grant. He has served as associate dean of BYU's College of Fine Arts and Communications. With Susan Easton Black, he co-wrote a BYU Studies article about artists Arnold Friberg, Harry Anderson, Tom Lovell, and Ken Riley. He is a member of the Society of Illustrators and received the 2010 Distinguished Educator in the Arts Award. Barrett has held solo shows at the Springville Art Museum and the St. George Art Museum, and his work includes drawings inspired by the Book of Mormon and paintings about Jesus's ministry. He also illustrated The Real Story of Creation and The Real Story of the Flood by Paul L. Maier. Barrett is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission to Germany.
