Robert Nobel
Robert Hjalmar Nobel (4 August 1829 – 7 August 1896) was a Swedish industrialist who founded Branobel, an early and influential oil company in Russia. He was born in Stockholm, the eldest son of Immanuel Nobel and Andriette Ahlsell, and the brother of Emil Oscar Nobel, Ludvig Nobel, and Alfred Nobel.
In 1873 he started an oil business in Baku, Azerbaijan and soon involved his brother Ludvig. In 1876 he bought an oil refinery in Baku, and in 1878 he and Alfred Nobel formed Naftabolaget Bröderna Nobel (Branobel). In 1880, due to Robert’s ill health, Ludvig took over the business and Robert returned to Sweden for treatment. He later lived in Getå, Norrköping Municipality, and died in 1896. He is buried at Norra begravningsplatsen in Stockholm.
