Rob Edwards (born June 22, 1963) is an American screenwriter and producer for television and movies. His work includes the Disney animated films Treasure Planet, The Princess and the Frog, and the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World.

Early life and education
Edwards was born in Detroit, Michigan. He attended Cranbrook Schools in Bloomfield Hills and then studied in Syracuse University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts, Transmedia Department. He serves on the Cranbrook Schools Board of Governors.

Career in television
After college, Edwards moved to Los Angeles to pursue writing. He wrote for the long-running show Full House, and later worked as a writer, story editor, and consultant on series such as A Different World and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. He was nominated for an Emmy for In Living Color. He also created the NBC sitcom Out All Night, which starred Patti LaBelle, Morris Chestnut, and Vivica A. Fox. In the 1990s he wrote and produced for Roc, The Parent ’Hood, and In the House.

Transition to film
Edwards later joined Walt Disney Animation Studios as a writer. Treasure Planet (2002) featured a voice cast including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Martin Short, Emma Thompson, and Patrick McGoohan. Although it didn’t do well at the box office, it earned eight Annie Award nominations and an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature. He returned with The Princess and the Frog (2009), which was a critical and box-office success and earned three Oscar nominations, including Best Animated Feature.

Later work and future projects
In 2011, Variety reported that Edwards was collaborating on projects with Robert Zemeckis, Bob Cooper, Jack Rapke, Will Smith, Dan Fogelman, and Reggie Hudlin. In June 2021, it was announced that he would write the script and make his directorial debut on an animated film called Sneaks.
