Rick Jones is a Marvel Comics character who has been a friend and ally to many heroes, especially the Hulk. He started as a normal kid from Scarsdale, Arizona, who became part of superhero history after Bruce Banner’s gamma bomb test: Banner saved Rick by pushing him into a trench, but the gamma rays still affected Rick in ways that tied him to the Hulk’s world.

Over the years Rick has taken on several roles. He created the Teen Brigade, helped form the Avengers, and even served as Captain America’s sidekick for a time under the nickname Bucky Jones. He has been close to Hulk, Captain America, Mar-Vell (the original Captain Marvel), Rom the Space Knight, and Genis-Vell (Captain Marvel), often acting as their ally or bridge to other heroes.

Rick’s life has been full of upheavals and major adventures. He joined with Mar-Vell through the magical Nega-Bands and played a key part in the Kree–Skrull War. He has been injured, nearly killed, and even transformed into powers and forms of his own, including A-Bomb, a gamma-powered creature with strength and durability similar to the Hulk and the ability to camouflage. He later gained enhanced intelligence and hacking skills when his powers were suppressed.

In later stories, Rick became a hacktivist known as the Whisperer during the Avengers Standoff storyline and helps with a broader Captain America-related plot. He has also experienced time travel, encounters with death and resurrection, and a long-running struggle with the consequences of his gamma upbringing.

Physically and musically talented, Rick is an accomplished guitarist and harmonica player. He is also a skilled fighter and a quick study who learned from some of the biggest heroes in his world. His life has been defined by close friendships, personal sacrifice, and a willingness to take risks to help others.

In other media, Rick Jones has appeared in animated adaptations, voiced by actors including Luke Perry and Seth Green, usually in roles connected to the Hulk or Captain Marvel-related stories.

Rick first appeared in The Incredible Hulk #1 (1962), created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. His A-Bomb identity first showed up in Hulk vol. 2 #2 (2008), created by Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness. Over the years, Rick has remained a central, if sometimes controversial, figure in the Hulk’s world—an everyman who has stood beside legends, faced terrible dangers, and helped shape the paths of many heroes.
