Ricardo J. Vicent Museros
Ricardo J. Vicent Museros (1938–2019) was a Spanish printer and publisher from Valencia. After studying in Germany, he returned with new methods in printing, advertising and graphic design. He founded the National Printing and Graphic Works Museum in El Puig de Santa María and promoted the twinning of Valencia and Mainz, Germany. In 1992 the International Gutenberg Society awarded him the Gutenberg Prize, and in 2003 Germany’s government gave him the Cross of Civil Merit for fostering Spain–Germany cultural ties. He came from a long line of printers dating back to 1860 in Castellón and later ran the family workshop in Valencia. He created several companies, including Vicent García Editores and DFC Publicidad, and published works for many artists. He retired in 1995 due to illness. In 1977 he helped link Mainz and Valencia by highlighting their printing history, which led to the museum. The museum was opened in 1987 with help from the Order of Mercy and was housed in the Monastery of Santa María del Puig; in 2000 it was donated to the Generalitat Valenciana. He also donated eleven sculptures to El Puig and published facsimiles of manuscripts and old books through his publishing ventures, including works about the Valencia region and famous incunabula.
