Reg Davies (footballer, born 1929)
Ellis Reginald Davies, known as Reg Davies, was a Welsh footballer born on 27 May 1929 in Cymmer, Wales. He played as an inside forward. He began his professional career with Southend United in 1949 after army service and an amateur spell at Southampton. He played 41 league games and scored 18 goals for Southend. Newcastle United signed him in 1951 for £10,000, and he stayed there until 1958, with 157 league appearances and 49 goals. In 1958 he moved to Swansea Town as part of the deal that brought Ivor Allchurch to Newcastle, playing 111 league games and scoring 29 goals over four seasons. He then played for Carlisle United from 1962 to 1964, making 65 appearances and scoring 13 goals. In 1964 he joined Merthyr Tydfil for a season and left professional football in 1966. In November 1970 he was the player-manager of King's Lynn. Davies moved to Perth, Australia in 1971, where he coached several local teams. He died on 9 February 2009 in Perth, aged 79. He earned six Wales caps between 1952 and 1957.
