Rayman M, known in North America as Rayman Arena, is a party racing game in the Rayman series created by Ubi Soft. It combines racing and battle modes where players control one of nine characters, including Rayman and Globox, across 24 levels with some unlockable bonus stages.

Platforms and release: It launched for PlayStation 2 and Windows in Europe in late 2001, and for GameCube and Xbox in North America in 2002. A PlayStation demake called Rayman Rush, which only features racing, was released in 2002.

Gameplay: The game has two main modes: racing and battle. In racing, players compete on obstacle-filled tracks against computer opponents or friends, using items to hinder rivals and aiming for the best time in time-attack style. In battle, players shoot and collect points or reduce opponents’ health. Some versions include a “Capture the Fly” mode, where players hold a special fly to earn points while others try to steal it.

Solo modes and features: PC and PS2 versions include solo modes such as Training, Lums collection, and Popolopoï, which adds time-based challenges. A radar helps players find the Lum collectibles around the tracks.

Rayman Rush: The PlayStation demake focuses only on racing and has three modes—training, championship, and time attack—with support for up to two players due to hardware limits.

Reception: Rayman M received mixed reviews. Critics said it lacked originality and compared it to Mario Party-style games. Rayman Rush also received mixed opinions, with some praise for visuals and music but criticism that it didn’t match the quality of the main Rayman games.

Development: Rayman M began as two ideas, Rayman Tribe and Rayman Shooting Fish, before becoming the game’s modes. It was announced for PS2 in 2001, and Ubisoft ran an official site detailing characters, modes, and environments.
