Pistyll Rhaeadr
Pistyll Rhaeadr
Pistyll Rhaeadr is a waterfall near the village of Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant in Powys, Wales. It is about 4 miles (6 km) from the village and 16 miles (26 km) west of Oswestry. The Afon Disgynfa falls in three stages down a 240-foot (73 m) cliff of ancient rocks, and below it the river is called the Afon Rhaeadr. The tallest drop is about 40 metres (130 feet).
The waterfall is known as one of the Seven Wonders of Wales and is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It has a natural arch in the middle. There is parking near the base, plus a café and a bed-and-breakfast nearby. The 19th‑century writer George Borrow praised the waterfall in Wild Wales. Some sources say it is the tallest in Wales or the UK, but it is not the tallest single drop, as other falls are higher. Visitors can enjoy the views from paths and viewpoints around the site.
