Rancid (1993 album)
Rancid is the debut studio album by the American punk band Rancid, released on May 10, 1993, by Epitaph Records. It was recorded from September 1992 to January 1993 at Westbeach Recorders in Culver City, California, and runs 34 minutes and 15 seconds. The album features the band as a trio; Lars Frederiksen joined for the supporting tour. It was produced by Donnell Cameron, and Brett Gurewitz did not produce the album but contributed backing vocals. This is one of three self-titled Rancid releases, and the record is sometimes nicknamed “Rancid Rancid.” The cover did not display the band’s iconic logo until 2017’s Trouble Maker. BrooklynVegan named it the sixth best Rancid album in 2019. AllMusic’s Mike DaRonco called it the starting point of their sound, with 15 high-energy punk tracks about urban life, highlighted by Armstrong’s slurred vocals and Freeman’s bass. All tracks were written by Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman, except where noted. Additional musicians contributed to the recording.
