Ramkrishna Kusmaria
Ramkrishna Kusmaria (born 30 July 1942) is an Indian politician from Madhya Pradesh. A member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, he has served as a minister in the Madhya Pradesh government and as a member of Parliament.
Early life and education
- Born in Sakor, his father was farmer Kanhaiyalal Kusmaria.
- He earned a Master of Science in Agriculture and a Ph.D., studying at Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya (Jabalpur) and Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya (Jabalpur).
Political career
- Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly: Elected from Hatta in 1977 (Janata Party), then again from Hatta in 1985–1990, and 1990–1991.
- Lok Sabha: Elected from Damoh in 1991 and won subsequent terms, serving until 2004. In 2004 he was elected from Khajuraho and served until 2008.
- Madhya Pradesh government: Elected to the Assembly from Pathariya in 2008 and served as Minister of Farmers Welfare and Agriculture Development from December 2008 to December 2013.
- Later years: In 2018 he contested as an independent rebel from Damoh and Pathariya but lost. He was president of the Bundelkhand Development Authority from 2016 to 2019.
- Party changes: He joined the Indian National Congress in February 2019 and returned to the Bharatiya Janata Party in July 2020. In 2023, he was appointed chairman of the State Backward Classes Commission.
