Rakhyut
Rakhyut is a Wilayat (province) in Oman’s Dhofar Governorate. It sits on the coast and, in 2020, had a population of about 5,001. The area has grown in recent decades because of the frankincense trade.
In 1908, J.G. Lorimer described Rakhyut as a small coastal village with about 60–70 mud houses. It was home to several local clans (Qaras/Al-Hakli) from Bait Ak'ak, Bait Hardan, Bait Isa, and Bait Shamasah. The village lies at the mouth of a ravine of the same name, and to the east is a ridge that separates it from Safqot. Across a creek stands a tower built by the Omani Wali of Dhofar to defend against attacks by the Mahras.
Rakhyut is also known as Qamar and, sometimes, Sa'duni, after a former chief.
