Rachael Crawford
Rachael Crawford (born 1969 in Toronto) is a Canadian actress who has been acting since the mid-1980s. She is best known for Brewster Place, Here and Now, and Show Me Yours, and has appeared in TV series such as Cold Squad, Crossing Jordan, The Firm, and Suits. She has earned three Canadian Screen Award nominations.
She began her career in the mid-1980s, playing Renee in T. and T. In 1990 she took the role of Kiswana Browne in Brewster Place, replacing Robin Givens. She played Danielle, a college student, on Here and Now, and appeared in several TV movies during the 1990s. She starred as Tai Babilonia in On Thin Ice: The Tai Babilonia Story.
In 1996 she played Myra Mink in Captive Heart: The James Mink Story; in 1997 she appeared in In His Father's Shoes with Louis Gossett Jr. Her feature film debut came in 1995’s Rude as Maxine, for which she earned a CSA nomination. She played Petra in When Night is Falling, a role praised by The New York Times. She also appeared in Curtis’s Charm (1996) and Pale Saints (1997), earning another CSA nomination for Pale Saints.
From 1998 to 2000 she was Niko Bach on Traders, a role that earned her a third CSA nomination in 2000. In the 2000s she guest-starred on Mutant X and played Dara Vann in The Man (2005). She portrayed Diane Haughton, Aaliyah’s mother, in Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B (2014). She had a regular role as Danielle in This Life (2015–2016) and, in 2017, played Crack in Brown Girl Begins, a role some critics described as chilling.
She continues to act in television and film.
