Mount Prospect School District 57
Mount Prospect School District 57 is a public school district in Mount Prospect, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. It covers about 4.3 square miles and serves more than 2,000 students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. The district operates two elementary schools, one middle school, and a learning center. The superintendent is Dr. Mary Gorr, and the district’s website is d57.org.
History: The district began in the early 1890s to attract residents. The first Central School opened in the mid-1890s and also served as a community center. As Mount Prospect grew, more schools were built, including Lincoln School in 1950 and several others in the 1950s and 1960s. After World War II, enrollment rose quickly, then declined in the late 1960s and 1970s. Several schools closed or were repurposed. Lincoln became the district’s middle school, and by the 1990s and 2000s the district rebuilt facilities to address needs. Today, Mount Prospect District 57 serves two elementary schools, one middle school, and a learning center for students.
