Rødbyhavn
Rødbyhavn is a small town and harbour on the south coast of Lolland, Denmark. It has about 1,476 residents (2025). The name means "Rødby Harbour" and it lies about five kilometres southwest of the town of Rødby. Since 2007, it has been part of Lolland Municipality. The harbour sits on the northern shore of the Fehmarn Belt, and a ferry operates between Rødbyhavn and Puttgarden on the island of Fehmarn. This ferry links travel from Copenhagen across the Fehmarn Belt to Lübeck and Hamburg via European route E47.
Historically, a dyke was built in 1872 after big storms. The nearby Syltholm harbour opened in 1912; its name was later changed to Rødbyhavn. A shipyard started in 1916, but shipbuilding slowed down by the 1920s. The harbour was expanded in 1920, and in 1941 work began to prepare for the ferry connection to Puttgarden. After the war, work stopped but resumed in 1958. The ferry connection opened on 14 May 1963, bringing jobs and population growth to the town.
Just west of Rødbyhavn is the Lalandia holiday resort on the Fehmarn Belt.
A Codan Medical factory on Færgevej 4 makes plastic medical products like catheters; Codan is based in Nysted, nearby.
