Quaker Valley School District
Quaker Valley School District is a public school district in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. It serves the boroughs of Sewickley, Leetsdale, Edgeworth, Glen Osborne, Sewickley Hills, Sewickley Heights, Bell Acres, Haysville, and Glenfield, plus the townships of Leet and Aleppo. The district’s motto is “Educating and empowering all learners to design their best future,” and it serves students from kindergarten through 12th grade.
The district runs Quaker Valley High School (9–12), Quaker Valley Middle School (6–8), Edgeworth Elementary School (K–5), and Osborne Elementary School (K–5). It also maintains the building that houses the Sewickley Public Library.
Quaker Valley was formed in 1956 by merging several local schools and the area’s two high schools at the time, Leetsdale High School and Sewickley High School. In 2001, the district received a two-year, $4 million technology grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education to become a “digital school district.” The initiative provided laptops and home internet access to students in grades 3–12, and RAND Corporation and Carnegie Mellon University studied its early effects. Today, the district continues to emphasize technology, providing iPad computers to all students in grades 3–12.
