Pukkila
Pukkila is a small municipality in southern Finland, in the Uusimaa region near Porvoo. As of June 2025 it has about 1,737 residents and covers 145.9 square kilometers, of which 0.9 km2 is water. The population density is about 12 people per square kilometer. The official language is Finnish.
The name Pukkila comes from the word pukki, which means male goat, so the name roughly means "the place of the goat." It used to be called Savijoki (Clay River) and, in everyday language, Vähä-Porvoo (Lesser Porvoo).
In 1962 a villager named Onni Nurmi left 760 Nokia shares to benefit the elderly. After a legal process, the income from the shares is used to fund a welfare centre and elderly services.
Local sights include the Naarkoski rapids with small waterfalls and fishponds, Pukkila Church, a wild boar garden, and the old and new parts of Yado Oikawa’s Japanese inn.
Pukkila is governed by Municipal Manager Juha Myyryläinen. The climate is a cold, continental type (Dfc). The time zone is EET (UTC+2) in winter and EEST (UTC+3) in summer.
