Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever)
Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever) is a Muse song on The Twilight Saga: Eclipse – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. It was released as the album’s lead single on May 17, 2010. The track runs 3:50 on the album version and 3:12 in the radio edit. It’s an alternative rock song written by Matt Bellamy and produced by Butch Vig, released on Warner Bros. and Helium-3.
The single was a hit in Italy, reaching the top ten and earning gold certification from FIMI. It was first announced on Stephenie Meyer’s website, and BBC Radio 1 premiered the full song on May 17, 2010, with Bellamy giving an interview. Bellamy has said the song grew from a breakup he experienced at the end of 2009, reflecting his feelings at the start of that relationship.
A 30-second preview of the video appeared on MTV, and this marked the first time Muse released the lead single for a film soundtrack. The song is in D-flat major and features a chorus and outro with modal changes. The video shows Bellamy at a piano with red smoke, intercut with clips from Eclipse; a director’s cut exists showing the band alone.
Critics were positive: BBC Music praised it as Muse turning their “Preposteriser Ray” on their own catalog, while Above and Beyond Magazine compared it to their earlier album Origin of Symmetry.
