Buses
- Colchester bus station is on Osborne Street and is the main hub for most services.
- The station is being redeveloped to modernize facilities and improve the passenger experience.
- The main bus operators are First Essex and Arriva Colchester.
- Other operators include Hedingham & Chambers, Beeston's, Ipswich Buses, Stephensons of Essex, and Panther Travel (Essex). They mostly run county-wide routes or services to rural areas.
- National Express runs coach services but stopped its Osborne Street stop in 2020 for safety reasons.
Bus rapid transit
- Colchester has plans for a bus rapid transit system with one route and eight stations, ending at a proposed new garden community.
- Guided busways run along Cowdray Avenue and Via Urbis Romanae.
- Construction was set to finish in 2025.
Rail
- Colchester has three railway stations.
- Two rail lines pass through the town, and all services are operated by Greater Anglia.
