Melania has been portrayed in popular culture by comedians and actors, and her image has appeared in various parodies and sketches. She was also the target of commentary and criticism from some media and public figures, including songs and videos that referenced her.
Polls show a complicated picture of her public approval. During the 2016 campaign, she held a negative approval rating, but her numbers changed after she became First Lady. By 2018 she received higher approval, with numbers around the high 40s to the mid-50s. In 2019 and 2020, she continued to attract more favorable views than some other political figures, though not uniformly. By the end of her term in 2021, some polls put her at a lower level of approval than other first ladies, reflecting a broad range of opinions about her, her role, and her private style.
