Bekir Sami Günsav
Bekir Sami Günsav (1879–1934) was a Turkish career military officer who served in both the Ottoman Army and the Turkish Army. He was born in the village of Haydar, Bandırma, in the Ottoman Empire, to Hasan Bey and Ayşe Hanım. His Circassian family, Zarukhue, had moved from Circassia to northwestern Anatolia. He rose to the rank of colonel (miralay) and commanded several units, including the 43rd Regiment, the 5th Expeditionary Force, the 52nd Division, and the 56th Division, and he held positions at the Chataldja Defense Line and in the XVII and XX Corps, as well as commands in the Muğla and Antalya areas. He fought in the Balkan Wars, World War I, and the Turkish War of Independence, where he led the 56th Division in the early phase. Bekir Sami Günsav died in Istanbul on 9 September 1934 and was buried at Karacaahmet Cemetery.
