Public Chamber of Abkhazia
The Public Chamber of Abkhazia is an advisory body to the President. The law creating it took effect on January 1, 2007, and the first session was opened by President Bagapsh on July 20 of that year. The Chamber brings together civil society and other groups to advise the presidency. It has 35 members: 13 nominated by the president, 11 by local administrations, and 11 by political parties and social movements. The Chamber is led by a secretary; Natella Akaba has held that post. Other members include Aleko Gvaramia (the rector of Abkhazian State University), writers Alexei Gogoi and Daur Nachkebia, and former Prime Minister Sokrat Jinjolia. Natella Akaba was reelected secretary on October 29, 2013, with Viacheslav Tsugba and Valeri Ardzinba as deputy chairmen. She was reelected again on November 2, 2016, with Danil Ubiria and Valeri Ardzinba as deputy secretaries.
