Pseudobagrus
Pseudobagrus is a genus of bagrid catfishes that live in streams and rivers across East Asia, with about half of the species found in China. The classification of this group is unsettled: some researchers include the two Coreobagrus species in Pseudobagrus, which affects how Pelteobagrus and Tachysurus are defined; many authorities also treat Pseudobagrus as a junior synonym of Tachysurus. There are 32 recognized species.
Pseudobagrus catfish are small to mid-sized. They have an inferior mouth, nostrils widely separated, four pairs of barbels, a top of the head usually covered by skin, two dorsal fin spines, a small pelvic fin, and a tail that is emarginate, truncate, or round.
One fossil species, Pseudobagrus ikiensis, is known from the Middle Miocene of Japan. The type species is Pseudobagrus aurantiacus. Synonyms include Fluvidraco. Temporal range: Middle Miocene to present.
