Anna Maria Tremonti

Anna Maria Tremonti is a Canadian journalist who works in radio and television with CBC. She was born on July 2, 1957, in Windsor, Ontario, and studied at the University of Windsor, where she wrote for the student newspaper and worked at the campus radio station CJAM.

Tremonti became well known as a senior reporter for The National and as the host of The Fifth Estate. She has won Gemini and Gracie Awards for her work.

From 2002 to 2019 she hosted CBC Radio One’s morning show The Current. In May 2019 she announced she would retire from The Current at the end of the season to start two new CBC podcasts. The first, More With Anna Maria Tremonti, began in January 2020.

Earlier in her career she worked in private radio in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia (CKEC) and in Toronto, before joining CBC in Fredericton, Halifax, Edmonton, Ottawa, and Toronto. She also served as a CBC correspondent in Europe and was the chief CBC correspondent in the Middle East for several years.

Her partner is John Filion, a former Toronto city councillor.

In February 2022 she released Welcome to Paradise, an audio memoir about her earlier marriage to an abusive husband, available on CBC Radio and as a podcast.
