ProBuild Holdings was a private supplier of lumber and building materials for professional builders and contractors in the United States. It grew through Fidelity Capital-backed acquisitions, starting with the Strober Organization in 1997, expanding across the Northeast, mid-Atlantic, and Southeast to become one of the largest dealers. In 2008, Fidelity, via ProBuild, bought Lanoga Corp., expanding the network to more than 420 locations in 38 states (including Alaska). By 2007 it had become the largest professional building materials dealer in the country, with more than 506 locations. The housing downturn of 2008–2009 reduced sales to about $3 billion. By 2013, sales had begun to recover. ProBuild had about 423 locations and 9,223 employees, with revenue around $3.6 billion in 2012. On July 31, 2015, Builders FirstSource acquired ProBuild, creating a larger company with more than $6 billion in annual revenue, about 400 locations in 40 states, and a presence in 74 of the top 100 U.S. metropolitan areas. The combined company continued to grow from there.
